About My Favorite Movies and Television Shows.
Just a little while ago, I finished re-watching the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy on my laptop. I got so much more out of the films as an adult, and this viewing saga has inspired me to write this post—a post about my very favorite movies and television shows.
You all are very much aware of my love for reading, but I am taking this opportunity to let you know that I am also an avid consumer of films and TV. I have been this way since I was a little kid.
I still to this day remember the first time my sister and I watched The Matrix together. Going in, I had no idea what to expect, but by the time we were done with the film, I could not help but conclude that it was one of the best movies I had ever seen. Since then, I have probably seen it at least half a dozen times. The premise of The Matrix is that the world we see and perceive to be real is in fact false.
I also very much enjoy the Harry Potter films, especially because I am such a fan of the books. Incorporating such voluminous texts into movies is incredibly daunting, which makes these masterpieces even more impressive to me.
As far as television is concerned, my two very favorite shows have stood the test of time: Glee and The West Wing. Glee takes the viewer into the halls of the fictional William McKinley High School, and follows their glee club. I am very much into music, so this show is perfect for me. Just a teaser—one of my next blog posts will have a musical theme. In the new year, you will see exactly what I mean by this.
Additionally, for decades now I have had a love of politics, which excellently explains why I have been such a fan of The West Wing. It is just such an intellectual show, and I love being taken behind the scenes of the White House. I have yet to find a political show that I like better than The West Wing—and this is saying something, because I was introduced to this show way back in high school by my A.P. Government teacher.
Naturally, one blog post simply does not yield enough space to talk about all of my favorite movies and shows. If I truly set out to do that, this post would probably be fifty pages long.
I have found over the years that the more media I consume, the better my writing becomes. It can sometimes be effective to get ideas from others when you are trying to work on a piece of your own. At the same time, I always value originality in my written work. A good writer is a good reader, a renowned director is an avid movie watcher, and an admired sitcom creator is also a consumer of television shows.
Once my novel Parapenda eventually makes it big, I feel that readers and writers alike will enjoy it, and even try to learn from my example.
