PARAPENDA

Falling in love is like living in a world that is black and white, and then seeing color for the very first time, discovered Caron after he first met Dorian. Nothing—including a potentially lethal parasitic virus—can stand in their way. Justice dictates that because of their love, a perfect society will be created.
— G. M. Haffner
  • The fictional world of Parapenda is a land that is literally perfect, and in every way.

  • The blueprint for this entire utopian society is love.

  • Every denizen of this civilization is perfect—in other words, every individual has so much love that the love strips out the flaws that would have ordinarily made that person human.

  • These perfect individuals enter into romantic relationships that never fail.

  • Every person in Parapenda is queer.

  • In Parapenda, there is no: (a) crime; (b) illness; (c) warfare; (d) discrimination; (e) pollution, or (f) danger from unsafe methods of transportation.

  • Parapenda is so advanced that space travel is possible.

  • The heart of the novel of Parapenda is a love story between the protagonist (Caron) and his forever partner (Dorian).

  • However, Parapenda does have an enemy: a lethal virus known as Parahata.

  • This virus arrives on Earth via an asteroid. Parahata achieves a semblance of sentience by infecting innocent queer people. Soon, every human and animal on the planet is impacted, and Parapenda is destroyed.

  • There is a prophecy that one day, one will be born without the Parahata virus. This person is Caron.

  • Caron is heavily targeted by the virus because of his love. Parahata sees him as a threat to its dominion of Earth. As a preventative measure, it physically attacks his body, temporarily preventing him from experiencing romantic love. The only force that threatens the Parahata virus is love.

  • Caron knows Dorian is “the one.” But how can they ever be together?

  • Can Dorian save Caron, and can Caron save Parapenda?
